A new approach for the treatment of chronic pain
When it comes to pain management, a common misconception is that pain is always a sign of injury or illness. In fact, there are a number of pain generators in the body and, particularly for those with chronic pain, it can be useful to understand how thoughts, feelings and behaviours impact on the discomfort we feel.
Do you suffer from long term conditions?
- Back, neck and shoulder pain
- Sports and occupational injuries
- Joint, muscular and tendon problems
- Headaches and migraines
- Fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue and other persistent pain conditions
- Chronic overuse syndromes, including tennis elbow, RSI and tendonopathy
Long-term, persistent pain and injuries
Aside from the physical aspects involved with identifying and relieving pain, at Myolates we place equal importance on helping clients understand where their pain is stemming from. It could be due to muscle, nerve or tissue damage, but could equally be a consequence of the body’s in-built protection mechanisms, or symptomatic of a different underlying issue altogether.
Many clients come to us convinced there are certain things their bodies are unable to do. Cycles of fear and avoidance resulting from trauma can stop people from exploring and adopting methods of preventing and overcoming pain, as can previously received bad advice and learned negative behaviours.
